Biography

Jerusha was born on February 28, 1843, in the upstate New York village of Kingsboro in Fulton County. She was the third child of ten born to Jonathan Wooster and Mary Ann Lee. [1]

On March 4, 1863, Jerusha and Willard Romanza Burr were married at her parents' home on State Street by Reverend W. Bannard, the newly installed pastor of the Kingsborough Presbyterian Church. [2] He was 22 and she was just 6 weeks shy of her 20th birthday.

Jerusha and Willard had four known children, born between 1865 and 1877. All were born in Kingsboro (later part of Gloversville). [3]

In the 1880 federal census, Willard and Jerusha were living in the village of Kingsboro, identified as the 6th electoral district of Johnstown, with their three surviving children: [4]

Willard R. Burr 40 Self (Head) Glove dealer
Jerusha Burr 37 Wife Keeping house
Sarah J. Burr 15 Daughter At home (also: Attended school)
Willard W. Burr 5 Son
Mary J. Burr 4 Daughter (note: this is "Millie)

Jerusha passed away on June 23, 1884 when she was 41 and her children were 19, 9 and 8 years old. Her father had died the previous year, but her mother outlived her by 11 years. The cause of Jerusha's early death is not given in family records. [5]

Research Notes: 1. Find A Grave does not show a marked burial anywhere in the US, but Jerusha's husband, her parents and her Wooster grandparents are buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, NY. Did New York require official death certificates in 1884? 2. Add Marian Banker's information. 3. Incorporate info from Federal Censuses for 1850-1870.
