Biography

Born Francis was born about 1905 ^[1]. His parents were Robert Woolford and Mary Ann Kerridge,

On 2 March 1910 Francis was enrolled at Marlesford Lodge School in Kensington ^[2]. In 1911 ^[3] his listed there as "scholar".

Marriage Francis married Irene Louise Holt in 1925 ^[4]. Their son Derek was born in 1926 ^[5].

Marriage Francis married Gladys Ivy Addicott in 1928 ^[6]. Their daughter Joyce S Woolford was born in 1929 ^[7]. In 1930 ^[8] Francis and Ivy Woolford were registered in Artisan Dwellings at 5 Olaf Street Hammersmith

Marriage Francis married Myfanwy Price in 1937 ^[9]. Their son Edward N Woolford was born late in 1937 ^[10].
In 1939 ^[11] Francis C H "stretcher bearer" & Myfanwy Woolford were living at 74 Walmer Rd Kensington, plus one blacked out entry (presumably Edward).
A second son, Robert P Woolford was born in 1940 ^[12]

Between 1945 ^[13] and 1951 ^[14] Francis and Myfanwy were living at 104 St Stephens Green, Hammersmith .

Died Francis died age 78 in 1983 ^[15]. Probate for "Charles Henry Woolford of 28 Stone Lane, Lydiard Millicent, Swindon" was granted on 7 October 1983. Effects £58,745. ^[16]

Research Notes

Date of Birth According to the Poor Law School District Registers (see entry above) his date of birth was 25 February 1905; this matches the GRO birth registration. However, the 1939 Register lists his date of birth as 28 November 1903 and his death registration as 28 November 1902. There is so far no apparent explanation for these variations.
Marriages The three marriages all clearly list his given names or at least the initials. In his genealogical notes Peter, his first wife's nephew, only mentions Francis in connection with Irene Holt, but does not indicate a separation and divorce that must have occurred as Francis remarried before Irene died.
Children Tracing the children listed above has proved difficult. Peter traced Derek Woolford who had changed his name by deed pole to David Collins and was living in New Zealand (biography to follow). The name change suggests he was distancing himself from his father.
There is an Ancestry tree that suggests that Myfanwy Price was in fact née Humphreys and that there was a further son Leslie Montgomery Woolford born in 1945; this need additional research.
Death in Wales This registration would appear to fit. Details on Probate are not clear, however, Myfanwy Woolford also died in Llanelli, Dyfed, Wales age 93 in 2004 ^[17].
