He married, in Tredegar, Wales, March 4, 1865, Maria Woodward, born there February 18, 1845, who survives him, still a resident of West Elizabeth. She is the daughter of Richard Woodward, born in Gloucestershire, England, in June, 1806, died in Jefferson township, Pennsylvania, at the age of eighty-two years. He married Maria Jones, born in Wales, February 29, 1812, died in Jefferson township, Pennsylvania, aged eightyone years. Richard Woodward was a miner in Tredegar until about 1865, then with wife and children came to the United States, stopping for a few months in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, then journeying west to the Monongahela Valley, where he resumed coal mining. About eighteen years prior to his death he retired and lived in easy comfort the remainder of his life. Children of Mr. and Mrs. Woodward: 1. Thomas, now at age of eighty years, living retired in Washington county, Pennsylvania. 2. William, now superintendent of water works at Leetonia, Ohio. 3. Maria, now the widow of David N. Lewis. Children of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis: 1. James A., of further mention. 2. Thomas E., now residing at Jefferson township. 3. Elizabeth, married Francis Yeager. 4. Catherine, married Samuel Parson. 5. Mary, residing with her aged mother.
