In the 1940s and 1950s the Woods family lived at 92 Summerhill Rd, Footscray North, Victoria. [2] William Joseph Woods Snr (Agent) and wife Harriet Woods (Home Duties). In 1951 William Joseph Woods (Jnr) was a fitter.

William Woods married Norma Capel on 27 September 1952 at Melbourne, Victoria. [3]

They had two children, a daughter and son Tony Woods.

In the early 1960s they moved from the western suburbs of Melbourne to the rapidly growing Cheltenham area where the market gardens were being filled with housing and manufacturing activities. Cheltenham East Primary School was opened in 1956 and Cheltenham High School three years later where their children were to attend. They lived in Voltri Street opposite the Mentone Racecourse that ceased horse racing in 1948 and was now used as a training track. It wasn't uncommon for a Red-Bellied Black, Eastern Brown or Copper Head snake, all venomous, to slither across the road from the training track into the back yard.

For many years Joe worked in sales, suppling compressed air equipment to the construction industry and hire companies, like Coates Hire.

Joe worked for himself at the end of his working life until he was in his 70s.

Joe and Norma moved into a recently built nursing home in South Oakleigh at the end of 2017 and sold their home in April 2018.

Joe passed away in March 2019, aged 89.

He was cremated and interred at the Cheltenham Memorial Park Cemetery.
