Research Notes

There are thousands of Ancestry trees for "Lady Micheal Patience Smith Du Bois Woods" or similar but none have any relevant sources attached. A marriage 29 January 1679 is often given, many years after she is said to have died.

Some trees give a marriage in 1609 as here, mostly in "Riding, Northumberland" which is a common Ancestry error for the ridings of Yorkshire. The only definite date given, 6 June 1609 at Heptonstall, West Riding, is for a marriage of Michael Wood (could be read as Woods) and Christabell Crabtry.^[1] This appears to be the origin of the 1609 date, but there is nothing to connect Michael Wood/Woods of Heptonstall with Michael Dubois Woods born in London or France. The surname is a fairly common one. The Michael Wood of the 1609 marriage may be the Michael Wood of Sowerby baptised 26 December 1586 at Halifax^[2] but there are at least two other possible Michaels born in Halifax and probably others born in Heptonstall as the parish register there does not begin until 1593.
