Godfrey was born in about 1849 in Manchester, Lancashire, England. He was the son of Godfrey Woodhead and Maria Louisa (Cranstone) Woodhead. His birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1849 in the Manchester district.[1]
