Staff Sergeant William Wood was Killed in Action over Romania in Operation Tidal Wave during World War II.
William was born on 19 April 1918. He was the son of Alonzo Wood and Margaret Gertrude Royal.
He was killed in action on 1 August 1943 when the B-24, Hell's Wench, crashed in Ploesti, Romania during Operation Tidal Wave. William was a gunner on the bomber. He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for the mission.
