Johanna Marie Friedrike Woderich was born on 24 May 1830 in Mecklenburg, Germany. [1] Her father was Joachim Woderich. [2]

She married Johann Christian Friedrich Rütz on 30 November 1852 in Petersdorf, Mecklenburg, Germany. [2] They had ten children:

She and her family departed Hamburg, Germany for the United States on 26 October 1872 on the ship Germania. [13] They arrived in New York on 13 November 1872. [14]

She married Henry Quitmeier on 22 April 1877 in Peotone, Will County, Illinois. [15]

She appeared in the 1880 US Census in Green Garden, Will County, Illinois. [16] She was living with her husband Henry, her stepson William Quitmeier, her children William, Louise, and August, and a farm laborer William Meisterling. [16]

She appeared in the 1900 US Census in Green Garden Township, Will County, Illinois. [17]

She appeared in the 1910 US Census in St. Louis, Missouri. [18] She was living with her daughter Louise, her son-in-law William Baune, and her granddaughter Hulda Baune. [18]

She appeared in the 1920 US Census in St. Louis, Missouri. [19] She was living with her daughter Louise and her son-in-law William Baune. [19]

She died on 4 May 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri. [1]

She was buried on 7 May 1920 at Bethany Cemetery in Wellston, St. Louis County, Missouri. [1] [20]

Her obituary in The St. Louis Star and Times [21] reads:

QUITTMEYER -- Entered into rest on Tuesday, May 4, 1920, at 4 p. m., Johanna Ruetz Quittmeyer, beloved mother of Mrs. John Liefhof, Mrs. Louise Baune, Mrs. Peter Georgen, Mrs. Oscar Siegler of Chicago, Ill., William Ruetz of Peotone, Ill., August Ruetz of Mantens, Ill., and our dear grandmother, great grandmother and mother-in-law, aged 90 years. Funeral from residence of her daughter, Mrs. Louise Baune, 2303 O'Fallon street, Thursday, May 6, at 2 p. m., to Bethany Cemetery.
