John Wittmer was born in Germany in May 1835. By 1863, he had married Mary French and was living in Indiana. He was in Lawrenceburg in 1880, and his job is described as "drives beer wagon". In 1900, he is working as a laborer and is living on an unspecified address on Shipping Street. He was widowed by this time. He may have died in the following decade; a newspaper clipping claims that a John Wittmer "of Newton" committed suicide in Tanners Creek in January 1903.
