Gwendolyn (Witter) Blakeley was a centenarian, living to age 104.

Gwendolyn is better known by her professional acting name Mary Carlisle, which was the married name of her maternal grandmother. Her acting career began in 1923 and ended in 1943 following her marriage to James Edward Blakeley (1910-2007) in 1942.

Although many sources state Mary Carlisle was born in Boston, her parents' census records make it seem more likely she was born in California; and the story about her father's death when she was 4 in 1918, may have been told by her mother who divorced her father about that time. Her father, who lived in Los Angeles for another decade, may have suffered mental disability from heavy metal poisoning experienced while working as an electroplater.
