Biography

Born 1806 at Drumquin, County Tyrone. Sometimes referred to as Gilbert Patterson Wilson. He emigrated to Australia on "Crescent"^[1] in 1839 at 33 years of age, arriving in Sydney on Feb 10 1840 with his wife, Hannah and 3 children- Samuel, Margaret and Frances. He came from Drumquin, County Tyrone; his occupation stated as Labourer. He was Protestant and could read and write.^[2] He settled in Yass, NSW and was likely to be the first schoolteacher in that town ^[3] NB his father was a schoolteacher in County Tyrone. The 1870-71 and 1878-79 electoral rolls ^{[4] [5]} shows he owned freehold of the property 'Longfield' at Derengullen, Yass. He died in 1896 at Grenfell, NSW at 90 years of age ^{[6] [7]}
