Biography

Robert married Katherine Rudd on 4 November 1624 at Saint Mildred Poultry, City of London.[1]

Robert left a will dated 2 January 1639, describing himself as citizen and draper of London. [2] He made bequests to and mentioned:

  • my well beloved wife Katherine Wilson
  • my son Thomas
  • my sister Margaret Varney
  • my sister in law Anne Wilson, widow of my brother Samuel Wilson
  • her son Samuel Wilson who I have placed as an apprentice with Mr Rowland Wilson
  • every other of her six children - Anne, Roda, Sara, Symon, Rowland and Robert Wilson
  • my brother Richard Wilson
  • his son Richard
  • my godson Robert Wilson, son of my brother Richard
  • the first child of my brother Richard, born in Virginia, of Katherine his now or late wife
  • the two children of my sister Margaret Varney, John and Katherine Varney
  • my brother in law Edward Lycoris and his wife Mary, my sister
  • my brother in law Edward Browning and his wife, my sister
  • Sarah Watson, my said sister's daughter by a former husband

Robert made many other bequests to parishes, clergy, the poor, and charitable institutions as well as to servants and apprentices. He also gave to the Drapers' Company 100l., to be lent to a young freeman of the Company at 1l. 6s. 8d % interest, to be distributed at Christmas between poor men of the Company.[3]

It appears from his wife's will that Robert was buried in the parish church of St Benet Sherehog.[4] His burial at St Benet took place on 16 January 1639 and was recorded in the parish register of St Mary Colechurch. [5]
