Annie Josephine Wilson was the daughter of Prof. Joseph Wilson, DD and Janet Woodrow of Columbia, South Carolina and sister of President Woodrow Wilson.

Her first name is variously recorded as Anne, Anna, and Annie. In a 1900 passport application, she repeatedly signed her name as Annie W. Howe.[4]
