Biography

Johann Elias Willyard was born in 1734 in Baalborn, Kaiserslautern, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.
He was the son of DeWalt Theobald Williard Sr and Anna Katherina Kirch.

In 1746 Elias was 12 years old when he accompanied his father, 2 uncles and 1 aunt from Germany. )Or he arrived in Philadelphia in 1750.)
The family was originally from Normandy, France. His great-grandfather, Nicholas Vieillard, left France, fleeing from persecution of the protestants in 1660.

Elias was superior in scholarship to any of his children and an extraordinary man.[1]
He lived on a 167-acre plantation called “Uncle’s Gift” and 5 acres called “Honesty Best.”

His sons, Phillip and Elias Jr. moved to Columbiana Co, Ohio.
9 NOV 1807 Johann Elias (Williar) Williard makes this entry in his Bible, "Philip went away or abroad", he is probably referring to his son removing to Franklin Township, Columbiana County, Ohio.

9 Oct 1813 Signed his will at the Frederick County Courthouse Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland.
He mentioned a gold mine on his property in his will.
He owned a slave by the name of Negro Dick and requested he be sold and the money distributed among his children.

He died May 20, 1819 on Thurs, age 84y 10m 26d
Buried Middletown, Frederick, Maryland.
