Services were held at Crown Hill Chapel in Denver yesterday, July 15, for Martha (Williams)Fitzsimmons Hessenflow, a longtime resident of Shawnee. She died July 9 in Sun City AZ. Burial was at Crown Hill cemetery in Wheat Ridge.

Mrs. Fitzsimmons Hessenflow was born in Estes Park, Colorado and moved to Fairplay with her parents in 1929. In 1953 she married Jesse Fitzsimmons. Her husband was twice elected Park County Commissioner, and both were active in Park County politics. Platte Canyon School District's Fitzsimmons Middle School is named in her husband's honor. Mrs. Fitzsimmons Hessenflow served for 35 years in various capacities with the county's Republican Party as well as on the state level.

Mrs. Fitzsimmons lived in Shawnee from her marriage until 1979. She was widowed in 1977. She moved to Sun City, AZ, in 1979. In 1985, she married Leroy Hessenflow of Sun City.

Besides her husband, Leroy Hessenflow, she is survived by a sister, Mary Jane Tuell of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Sidney Cathey of Kodiak AK, a son Steve Hickel of Shawnee, CO and six grandchildren.
