Biography

Anders Fredrik was born on August 6, 1856 at Frutorp in Näshult parish. His parents were Carl Fredric Andersson (1822-1869) and Johanna Christina Johansdotter (1825-1908).^[1] His father died in 1869, he continued to live with his mother and siblings^[2] until leaving for Jönköping on September 5, 1873.^[3] He entered Jönköping in October of 1873^[4] and stayed until 1874.^[5]

We completely lose track of him for a time. When he re-appears in Jönköpings Kristina in 1877 from w.f., he's using the name Oscar Fredrik Wikfors. The date of birth and parish of birth is the same.^[6] He marries Anna Charlotta Forsberg on August 30, 1879 and they have a daughter, Gunhild Elisabeth in December. Gunhild died in July of 1880. The couple leaves Jönköpings Kristina for North America on October 2, 1880.^[7]

Oscar married again on April 17, 1888 to Charlotte V. Kruse. The couple married in New York, New York and their marriage was recorded in the church book for Gustavus Adolph Lutheran Church.^[8]

Oscar Fredrik was naturalized on October 18, 1896 in New York. His occupation was shoemaker. His arrival was noted on the index as June 8, 1880. So either it was wrong or this is the wrong person.^[9]

In 1905, he was living in Manhattan, New York with his three children. His oldest son, Thure, was a witness on Mina Bergstrom's naturalizaiton petition.^[10]

Oscar married Mina Bergstrom on July 2, 1925 in Manhattan, New York.^[11]

Oscar Fredrik died in 1935 in Denver, Colorado according to his wife Mina's naturalization petition.^[12]

Research Notes

• I'm not sure where he was between 1874 and 1877 or why he came back with an entirely different name. I do believe it's the same person. If someone can find him in those 3 years and confirm, that would be great.
• I'm unable to find any information on his death. There are no newspaper articles or a find a grave, even searching with just his last name.
• It's still possible that this Oskar Fredrik Wikfors is two different people. I really can't figure out why he was in Colorado sometimes and in New York sometimes.
