Biography
John Mackellar Skeene Grieve Wight was born about 1808 in Dawlish, Devon. He was the second surviving son of John Wight of Minadab Cottage, Dawlish, and Margaret Schank, the only child of Admiral John Schank.
On 10 June 1843, he assumed the surname and arms of Schank.[1][2]
On 12 February 1856, he married Mary Parish at Plymouth St Andrew, Devon, England.[3][4]
John and Mary had children:
- Lt-Col Henry Alexander Schank m1 Ada Cheveley Deshon m2 Margaretta Maitland Coleman
- Margaret Eliza Helen Schank
- Louisa Mary Schank
- Helen Agnes Schank
The family were living in East Teignmouth in the 1861 census. John was a solicitor and notary.[5]
He passed away in 1874.
