George was born in 1861, the son of P.A.B. Widener, a very wealthy American industrialist. George and his son, Harry, age 27, both passed away in 1912 onboard the Titanic, along with George's valet, Edwin Herbert Keeping. George's wife, Eleanor, and her maid, Amalie Henriette "Emily" Gieger, were both saved in a lifeboat with other women, including Mrs. Astor, from the First Class section.
