Jesse Terrell Whitten, son of William Elmer Whitten (1872-1943) & Nellie Gertrude (Briggs) Whitten (1873-1957), was born on 4 Jun 1897 in Bond County, Illinois, United States. He died on 19 Nov 1981 in Hillsboro, Montgomery County, Illinois, United States, aged 84 years, 5 months, 15 days.^[1]

Jesse was a native of Bond County, Illinois and was a retired farmer. He was involved in civic and religous organizations and was a member of East Fork Baptist Church and Coffeen Masonic Lodge both in Coffeen, and Montgomery County Farm Bureau.^[2]

Jesse married twice, both preceded him in death. Jesse (25) married 1st, the former Alta L Elam (23) (born on 13 Nov 1899) in 1922 in Illinois, United States. Alta passed away on 20 Apr 1962. Jesse and Alta had at least 3 children (date of marriage based on date in obituary) ^{[citation needed][2]}:
