Douglas Wade Whittaker was born March 20, 1969, in Medford, Oregon to Virgil Leroy Whittaker (1933-2005) and Ireda Sue (Murphy) Whittaker (1944- ). He lived in Marquam, Oregon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquam,_Oregon) between birth and 8 years old. He attend grade school at Butte Creek Elementary School. His father managed a Oregon black berry farm owned by Harry & David (https://www.harryanddavid.com/). One of his favorite things during this time was to climb the cherry trees on the property and eat the fresh cherries. His dog, Buffy, and he explored Clackamus County from dawn till dusk.
About 1977, the family moved to Arcanum, Ohio, to be close to the Murphy family.
About 1982, Virgil and Ireda divorced. Doug and his sister, Patsy, lived with Ireda.
In 1986, Doug joined the United States Army Reserves and went to basic training between his junior and senior year of high school.
In 1987, Doug graduated from Elkhart Memorial High School in Elkhart, Indiana.
In 1988, Doug joined the Active Army. He was stationed at the following locations during the designated years:
Nurnberg, Germany 1988-1990; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii 1990-1992; Fort Campbell, Kentucky 1992-1997; Sinai, Egypt 1997-1998; Fort Campbell, Kentucky 1998-2001; Fort Wainwright, Alaska 2001-2012; Fort Riley, Kansas 2012-2015;
Doug completed 3 combat deployment tours while serving in the Army.
In 2005-2006, he was deployed to Mosul, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2008-2009, he was deployed to Baqubah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2011-2012, he was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In 2011, he was awarded a Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge when the cab of his vehicle was hit by a 82mm recoilless rifle round northwest of checkpoint 1 in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Doug survived the blast with only minor cuts and abrasions.
In 2015, Doug retired from the U.S. Army as a First Sergeant (E8) at Fort Riley, Kansas.

and died 1888 in Millbrook, Michigan, USA. William Whitaker married Leffee Morrison (or Lepha Morrison) who was born 1804 (England) and died 1866 in Coldwater, Michigan, USA
Children include; Silva Whitaker, Roxana Whitaker, Jonathan Whitaker, Henry Whitaker, Cynthia Whitaker, James Whitaker, Amanda Whitaker, David Almond Whitaker and Daniel Whitaker
David Almond Whitaker was b. 18 Feb 1842 and died in Bremen, Indiana (no date known)
Douglas also mentioned that he noticed the spelling changed to Whittaker with the double 't' for his great grandfather, James Edwin Whittaker (1868 - 1956)
