Biography

Private Stephen Whitney served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: 30 Jul 1862
Mustered out: 12 Jun 1865
Side: USA
Regiment(s): 103rd Ohio Infantry, Company C

Stephen was born in 1818. According to his son Stephen's 1911 Obituary: "He was a son of Stephen Whitney, who was in charge of the first locomotive run over the Cleveland & Pittsburg, now a part of the great Pennsylvania system of railroads." Stephen enlisted in Company C of the 103rd OVI on 30 Jul 1862 as a Private. He mustered out with the company on 12 Jun 1865. After the war, Stephen was living in Wellsville, Ohio. Stephen checked into the National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Dayton, Ohio in 1873, suffering from rheumatism. His social status was listed as a Widower. He passed away in the Home in 1894. His son Stephen, living in Wellsville, Ohio, received the rest of his pension of $28.05 on 30 Jun 1894.
