Biography

Charles was born in 1832, the son of Clement Whiting and Sarah Nash. Charles Cavit Whiting married Louisiana CRAIG, daughter of Dr. Richey CRAIG, and ----- -SMITH. C.C. Whiting passed away in 1906, and was buried at IOOF Cemetery, Princeton, Gibson County, Indiana.[1]

Children included: i. Ella May WHITING, ii. Charles Oscar WHITING, d. at age 23, a few months after completing a medical college course. iii. Margaret Amelia WHITING, iv. Jessie Clement WHITING, v. Sarah Angelina WHITING,


Charles Cavit Whiting was a member of Company A. 58th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He served during the Civil War, first as Orderly Sergeant, second, as Second Lieutenant, then as First Lieutenant, and afterwards as Captain (when William DAVIS was mustered out as Captain) until the close of the war. He was wounded at the battle of Stone River.
