Leslie was born in 1895. She was the daughter of Charles Whitehead and Winifred Stevenson. She served in WW1 as a secretary in London, and later joined the Serbian Army as a man in order to serve closer to the front lines. She was married from 1917 to 1930 to Voucato Voyinovitch, a lieutenant in the Serbian Army, with whom she had three children: two daughters Charles Meela Voyinovitch (1917-1991) and Winifred Dana Voyinovitch (b. 1922) and a son Meladin Vookate Voyinovitch (b. 1923). After her divorce, she married George Andrew Vaughan. They were ranchers in Princeton. B.C. They had one son, David John Vaughan (b. 1930.) She died of stomach cancer in 1964.
