Gertrude Ann Whitehall was born on 5 January 1893 in Schuyler, Colfax County, Nebraska, the second child of William Warden Whitehall and Lelia Ada Parris.
In 1900 she was seven years old and living in Schuyler with her parents and older sister Ada. Her father was working as a broom maker.[1]
In 1910 she was 17 years old and living in Schuyler with her parents and older sister. They were living next door to the families of William's brothers Herbert and John Grant Whitehall. William was working as a broom maker at a broom factory.[2]
In 1930 she was living in Los Angeles with her husband Lloyd Allen, next door to her sister Ada and her husband William Mack. Lloyd was working as a musician at the Cotton Club and William was working as a waiter in a railroad dining car.[3]
In 1940 she was living in Los Angeles with her husband. She was working as a caterer ("caterist") for a private family, and Lloyd was working as a waiter in a railroad dining car.[4]
In 1950 she was living in Los Angeles with her husband. Lloyd was working as a waiter in restaurant clubs.[5]
Gertrude Ann (Whitehall) Allen passed away on 16 October 1995 and was buried at Inglewood Cemetery.[6]
