Biography

James White died May 3, 1853 and was buried at Alpine Cemetery in Benton County, Oregon. The inscription on his headstone reads: James White Died May 3 1853 Aged 33 years, 2 months and 18 days. If the inscription is correct, his date of birth would be February 24, 1820.

I suspect that James may be a cousin to Joseph White who was an early settler and owned a mill that appears on the original survey map of the area. James White is buried in the same plot (9S#216) as Joseph & Louisa's infant son, Frank White who was born May 4, 1860 and died June 20, 1860^[1]. In 1856 Joseph and his wife Louisa named their first son James.
