Hector, son of Frederick A Whitaker and Anna Elizabeth Child, was born 26 Feb 1887 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.[1] He was the eldest in a large family. His family in 1901 consisted of:
When Hector enlisted in the CEF on 10 Sep 1915 in Vancouver, he was a civil engineer 5 feet 9 3/4 inches tall. He was assigned to the 72nd Overseas Battalion (Seaforth Highlanders), regimental number 129118. He was promoted from sergeant to temporary Lieut 2 October 1917. He served in France from 12 Aug 1916 to 25 Feb 1919 rising to Lieutenant. On 8 October 1918 Hector received a gunshot wound to his face and neck fracturing his jaw and was discharged from hospital 17 January 1919 to 1 Reserve Seaford. His address by Feb 1919 was c/o Dufresne & Whitaker, Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors, Box 471, Penticton.[3]
Hector Child Whitaker and Grace Logie were married by license on 24 Sep 1924 in Summerland, British Columbia by Presbyterian rites. He was living in Vancouver then.[4]
Hector died 3 May 1965 in Summerland, British Columbia, Canada at the age of 77.[5]
