Biography

I was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. My family has lived in the greater Des Moines area for 7 generations starting with John Willis Wheeler who relocated to Prole from Noble County Ohio in 1853.

I've been interested in genealogy for the past 30+ years. I love researching people and the places where they lived.

Hi Mark,

I wrote to you recently as part of the England Project's annual check-in with our project members. I haven't heard back from you. I hope you are well.

If you could please drop me a quick note to confirm whether you are still interested in the project and wish to remain an active member, that would be very helpful.

If we don't hear from you within the next 2 weeks, we will assume you are no longer active in the England Project and remove you from our list of project members. You would be most welcome to re-apply to join the project at a later time by signing-up on the project’s G2G welcome post.

Many thanks!

Ian, England Project Leader

Hello Ian,

Yes, I am still interested in the England Project. However, I did request to delay the start of my initial Orphan Trail work until this fall due to a busy summer schedule. I look forward to becoming more actively involved then.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for being part of the England Project! We are pleased you decided to join us and hope you find the Orphan Trail rewarding.

The England Project Leaders like to touch base with each of our members periodically to make sure everything is going well. This is our annual check-in and we would be interested in your perspective on the Orphan Trail whatever stage you are at -- whether on the road to completion or taking a short break.

We would also be interested to hear whether you're finding the explanations and guidance in the Orphan Trail pages useful. No more than a couple of sentences would be enough. We are always looking to improve and feedback plays an important part.

I look forward to hearing from you. Please respond by posting a reply below or sending me a private message.

On behalf of all the Leaders, thank you again. We look forward to your completion of the Orphan Trail and your continued involvement in our collaborative and fun project!

Kind regards,

Ian, England Project Leader

Hi, Mark

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Thank you for signing the Honor Code, Mark.

I see that you have had your DNA tested, congratulations! Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. To get the best results, you need to start with yourself and add sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to existing profiles in WikiTree. 24 hours later, your test will have populated on the profiles of your ancestors and their descendants, where others with potential matches may also appear.

Let me know if you have any questions, and have fun!

PS One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that others found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

Congratulations on becoming a family member and welcome to the Wikitree family.
