Biography

Wil was born to actress <private mother - still living> and medical specialist <private father - still living> on July 29, 1972^[1] in Burbank, California. He has a brother and a sister, Amy.

Career

Wil made his acting debut in 1981 in the TV film A Long Way Home and his first cinema role was as Martin Brisby in the 1982 animated film The Secret of NIMH, the movie adaptation of Robert C. O'Brien's Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. He did have a minor role in the 1984 movie The Last Starfighter but it was cut. He gained widespread attention for the 1986 film adaptation of Stephen King's The Body entitled Stand By Me portraying Gordie Lachance.

From 1987 to 1991, he portrayed Wesley Crusher in the first four seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The role became recurring later in the series.

Since the series, He has done several movies and TV shows. Most notable in recent work is portraying a fictional version of himself in The Big Bang Theory.

Other Adventures

After leaving Star Trek, Wil moved to Topeka, Kansas to work for NewTek, where he helped to develop the Video Toaster 4000 doing product testing and quality control. He used his public profile to serve as a technology evangelist for the product. Wheaton admitted that the move was a period of growth in his live and living away from LA helped him deal with anger problems. He has since returned to LA, taken acting classes, and re-entered into the acting world.

He has appeared in video games, comic books, and has recorded several of his non-self-published books as downloadable audiobooks.

Family Life

Wil married <name withheld for privacy reasons> on November 7, 1999 and lives in Arcadia, California with her and her two sons from a previous relationship. When one of her sons turned 18, he asked Wil to legally adopt him, which he did.

Wil suffers from generalized anxiety disorder and chronic depression. He supports mental health nonprofit organizations in raising awareness for these conditions.

He has also been noted as an atheist.
