Biography

She is the daughter of Henry Wheare and Temperance Bray.

The birth of Ellen Victoria at the Bendigo goldfield is firm evidence that Henry WHEARE, along with his wife Temperance and three young children under the age of five years made the arduous journey from Kapunda to central Victoria along with many other hopefuls including his sister Elizabeth and her husband Thomas BADGE.

The family returned to South Australia from Melbourne on the brig "Louisa", Captain HISLOP, arriving at Port Adelaide on 13/08/1853.

Henry George WHEARE ceased being a miner and became a substantial landowner near Kapunda within the next decade, raising speculation as to the possibility his property purchases were financed by success on the Victorian Goldfields.

Married:- (1) Josiah David BARNDEN on 06/11/1873 at the residence of John BRAY, Kapunda. The certificate was witnessed by John Henry Bray WHEARE and Temperance Maria WHEARE

Married:- (2) George F. TAYLOR in Broken Hill, N.S.W., in 1898. George F. TAYLOR, son of William and Esther TAYLOR died at Braidwood, NSW, in 1920.

Interestingly a death notice in Barrier Miner (Broken Hill, NSW : 1888 - 1954) Mon 24 Aug 1896 Page 2 may give details of his previous wife. DEATH. TAYLOR.-August 20, at the Adelaide Hospital, Mary Ann, the wife of George F. Taylor, of Morish-street, South Broken Hill, aged 31 years. This remains unproven.
