Regiment(s): 103rd Regiment, Ohio Infantry, Co E.
Roll of Honor
Private Freeman Westurn Died of Disease during The United States Civil War.

Freeman was born in 1821. He passed away in 1863. Freeman enlisted as a private for Civil War service in Company E of the 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, at Cleveland, Ohio (Cuyahoga County) for a term of 3 years. He died in a hospital of rheumatism and pleurisy at Frankfort, Kentucky. Many of the 103rd's soldiers who died from illness during this period of the regiment's history in Kentucky lied buried in national cemeteries. Freeman was lucky to have had his body transported back to Ohio for burial probably by arrangements by his family. During the Civil War the U.S. Government (Army) did not pay any expenses for this.[1]

His name is on Panel #14 in the Cuyahoga County Soldiers' & Sailors' Monument, Public Square, Cleveland, Ohio.[2]
