She married Hugues le Grand, duke of the Franks,[2] in 926.[3][4][5] Hugues took the initiative in seeking the marriage alliance, and sent a mission to Eadhild's half-brother Æthelstan with lavish gifts, including a supposed sword of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great with a supposed nail from Jesus's cross in the hilt.[6]
Alison Weir postulates a death date of 26 January 947, with no source, while acknowledging that some sources give a date of a decade or so earlier, which she regards as improbable. She gives no further explanation.[1] Alison Weir would appear to be mistaken: Hugues le Grand remarried in 937[4] or 938.[7]
Possible Child
Charles Cawley mentions the possibility that Eadhild, rather than the third wife (Hedwige) of Hugues le Grand, may have been the mother of Beatrice, but gives no source.[8] The Henry Project gives Beatrice's mother as Hedwige.[9]
