Horst Ludwig Georg Erich Wessel was born October 9, 1907 in Bielefeld, Westphalia, Germany. He was the son of Wilhelm Ludwig Georg Wessel and Bertha Luise Margarete Richter.
He was a Berlin leader of the Nazi Party's "stormtroopers" – the Sturmabteilung or "SA" – who was best known for being made into a martyr for the Nazi cause by Joseph Goebbels after Wessel's murder in 1930.
Wessel died February 23, 1930 in Friedrichshain, Berlin, Germany.
His funeral was filmed and used for propaganda purposes.[1]
Wessel was buried with his father in Sankt Marien- und Sankt Nikolai Friedhof I, Prenzlauer Berg, Pankow, Berlin, Germany
In 2000, the grave was desecrated and a skull was allegedly excavated and thrown into the Spree. It is uncertain if it was Ludwig's skull or Horst'.
