Biography
William Wescott is a part of US Black heritage.
William Henry Wescott was born on August 28, 1877 in Manteo, Dare County, North Carolina, United States, son of Fannie Gregory and Louis S. Wescott (1852–1935).
He was a Corporal in Company E of the 49th Volunteer Infantry in the Spanish American War, serving from 26 September 1899 to 30 June 1901.[1]
He married Nancy E Jarvis on 25 August 1901 in Jarvisburg, Currituck County, North Carolina.[2][3]
In the 1910 census, William and Nancy were living in Poplar Branch Township, Currituck County, with a daughter Maggie B (age 9), a son Henry C (age 1) and William's younger brother Ulysses (age 26).[4]
Nancy E. Wescott died of pulmonary consumption on 19 June 1914 at the age of 30. Her birth date is Jan. 23, 1883. She was buried in Powell's Point, Currituck, North Carolina. Her father is William Hunt and her mother, Elizabeth Jarvis according to the death certificate. [5]
In September 1918, he registered for the World War I draft, listing his father as his nearest relative.[6]
In the 1930 census, William and Sarah were living in Poplar Branch Township. William was working at a hunting club.[8]
William died on April 19, 1942 in Kecoughtan, Hampton County, Virginia, aged 64.[9][10]
His will named three children: Blanche M Wescott, Henry Clyde Wescott, and Charles Raymond Wescott.[11]
