Biography
Katie (Wells) Barker has completed the England Project's Post 1700 Orphan Trail I.
Katie (Wells) Barker achieved the 16 For 16 award for completing 16 missions in our 2024 16 For 16 Challenge.
Katie (Wells) Barker participated in the 2024 England Project Royal Society of Musicians Challenge.
Born 1978 in Kent, England.
Lives in Cambridgeshire, England.
Studied at Cambridge university. Then went on to become a teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator.
Married & Mother to 2 girls.
My genealogy journey
I first became interested in family history through my Grandad Jim, who lived in London and likes to use his free OAP bus pass to visit the archives at Kew. He has this big old fashioned tree he had brought and was slowly filling in the names of each generation of parents on it which I loved to look at when we went to visit.
Fast forward several years and pregnant with my first child I decided I wanted to write her a book for her 21st Birthday giving her as much information about her ancestry as possible. Whilst I later discovered grandad made lots of jumps and went off at odd tangents he did give me a good start on maternal lines and taught me the value of referencing sources!
Nearly 18 years on and I’m still working on the book slowly, although my daughter couldn’t currently be less interested!

Current projects
- I live in Soham and wanted to honour all those on our war memorial - Soham War Memorial.
- Leading into photos from the church St Andrews Church and Churchyard, Soham, churchyard St Andrew's Churchyard, Soham, Cambridgeshire category and cemetery Soham Cemetery, Soham, Cambridgeshire category.
- Having lived in Sutton and having many of my Husbands family there, I’m slowly adding as many headstone photos as possible to the category - St Andrew's Churchyard, Sutton, Cambridgeshire category
- Having completed the OT1 for Project:England and enjoying adding as many profiles as possible I have taken on the Team Leader Role for Suffolk. This means I’m working on:
- Suffolk, Maintenance Categories category
- adding photos and profiles to Suffolk Cemeteries
- adding Suffolk war memorials
- making sure Suffolk is covered in Source-a-thons and Connect-a-thons.
- Enjoying the England Projects monthly challenges.

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s VERY IMPORTANT to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
