Biography

Lewis B. Wells was born in 1843 in Lowndes County, Georgia to Berry Wells and Henrietta E. Rountree.^[1][2] He married Lucy Crandall in Georgia. Lewis enlisted as a private in Company H of the 1st Regiment of the Georgia Infantry, Confederate States of America, during the Civil War. Service records states he and his brother, James R. Wells, were captured at Fort Pulaski near Savannah, Georgia. They were both a part of a prisoner exchange in Virginia where Lewis died of typhoid fever.^[3] He passed away in 1862 in Virginia and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.^[4]
