Biography

Magnus I. "der Fomme", Herzog des Fürstentums Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel

Magnus I "der Fromme", joint duke of Brunswick in Göttingen, was the son of Albrecht II of Brunswick and Rixa von Werle[1][2].

He married Sophie of Brandenburg, daughter of Henry "Lackland" of Brandenburg and Agnes of Bavaria. They had the following children:

  1. Mathilde, married Bernhard III, prince of Anhalt-Bernburg
  2. Magnus II, duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg
  3. Albert, archbishop of Bremen
  4. Heinrich, canon, provost of Halberstadt Cathedral
  5. Otto
  6. Ludwig, co-regent of Lüneburg
  7. Agnes, married Count Henry of Hohnstein
  8. Sophie, married Count Dietrich of Hohnstein
  9. Ernst[1].

He had the following children by his mistress, Gesa von Vechelde:

  1. Albrecht
  2. Heinrich
  3. Magnus
  4. Otto[1].

Duke Magnus died in 1369.
