Biography

Edward was born probably in England, but no strong evidence of his parentage is known and little is known about his life in Massachusetts. A Hannah Walden was admitted to Wenham church on the line after him in the church record, so this is perhaps the name of his wife, although there is a reference to "Tamesin Waldron, wife of Edward Waldron" being a witness in June 1671. It is also possible he married twice.

Edward Walderne was recorded as a resident in 1648 in Ipswich, Massachusetts, United States.[1]

Death, Will, and Probate

Edward's will was dated March 22, 1678/9 and proved April 25, 1679 in Salem. In the will he named his children John, Hannah, Ruth, Naomi, and Elizabeth Walden, to share equally in the residue. Son Nathaniel is also named Executor and a devisee of 10 acres. Joseph Garrish testified at probate that he had heard Edward say that he had done enough for daughters Mary and Thomasin already and therefore excluded them from his will. His will does not name or refer to his wife, so she had presumably predeceased him. His inventory at death included: ten acres of land, one cow, one gun, clothing, pothooks, one old kettle, one old ax, bedding, and a bedstead, as well as money owed by other parties. He signed his will by mark.[2]

Children

Edward and his wife or wives had the following children who survived him, likely in Wenham:

  • Nathaniel, probably the eldest son
  • Mary
  • Thomasin/Tamesin
  • John
  • Hannah
  • Ruth
  • Naomi
  • Elizabeth
  • and perhaps others who died young.

Research Notes

Disputed Parents

Records show that Faulke Walden's son Edward was in England between 1671 and 1676 when this Edward was clearly in Massachusetts.

Court records list his wife as Tamesin [3]

Absolutely zero evidence of a wife Joan, surname Crib or otherwise.

Edward's wife Tamesin is known through court record.

Detaching.

Since ample evidence is presented here to indicate that no parents of Edward (Welden) Walden have yet been identified in genealogical records, I have today removed the parents previously attached to this record (Foulke and Mary Walden, Walden-428 and Walden-1166).
Suits me. Thank you for doing it.

No evidence or sources whatsoever for the parents of Edward Walden the immigrant. On the contrary, evidence proves the shown parents are incorrect.

No evidence or sources whatsoever that the mother of his children was Joan Crib as shown.

They should be disconnected

Walden-429 and Walden-241 appear to represent the same person because: Nothing conflicts, but daughters need to be matched.
Walden-911 and Welden-11 appear to represent the same person because: Only conflict seems to be difference in spelling, which can be reconciled with AKA.
Walden-429 and Walden-911 appear to represent the same person because: Nothing conflicts. Name had been mispelled.
