Biography

Jared was born in 1761.

In the summer of 1778, when only 16 years of age, Jared Weed enlisted as a private in Capt. Schofield's Co., Col. Webb's Regiment and served one month. He was employed in 1778 or 1779 as salesman or weighter of provisions by Smith Weed, Commissary of Issues, and served two years. While on a private armed boat, commanded by Capt. Holley, they disembarked on Long Island, where Jared was captured and imprisoned in the Sugar House in New York until the capture of Cornwallis, when he was exchanged. In 1782 he shipped on a private armed boat under Capt. Fitch and had a skirmish at Grog's Point. He served one week on another boat. Under Capt. Jones, who captured a British armed vessel, he served four months. [File No. 11275 Revolutionary War. Bureau of Pensions, Washington, D. Capt Fitch was likely his father-in-law, Jabez Fitch (not by Stuerke-1)

In 1784, he married Mary Weed, a third cousin once removed, and daughter of Reuben and Mary (Scofield) Weed. They had four children:^[2]

Jared passed away in 1842.
