Carl Gottwald Weber was born about 1815. His father was Johann Heinrich Weber. The Weber family left Germany and arrived in Baltimore in 1834, from where they proceeded west to St. Charles, Missouri. Carl, known in the U.S. as Charles, moved to St. Louis with several of his siblings.
The Webers were a prominent musical family in St. Louis. Charles' brother, Henry, was the co-founder of the Balmer & Weber music store in St. Louis.
