The 69th, 71, 72nd, and portions of the 106th PA Infantry were in line in the area of the Copse of Trees, the aiming point for Pickett's Charge. During the Confederate assault, Webb remained in at the front, with the color guard of the 69th directing his men. When the southerners struck the stone wall, the 71st broke and ran while the 69th's line bent back but did not break. Confederate General Armistead and about 150 of his men crossed the wall into the void left but the 71st Pennsylvainia but were soon overwhelmed -- Pickett's Charge was over. In the fighting, every member of the 69th's color guard was killed or wounded. General Webb was also seriously wounded by a gunshot while leading his men.
