Daniel Waterman was born on 27 August 1839 in Decatur, Otsego County, New York. [1] He was the son of Elisha Waterman and Amanda Perry Washburn. [1]

He appeared in the 1850 US Census in Westford, Otsego County, New York. [2] He was living with his mother, his step-father Oliver Seward, his siblings Lewis and Elisha, his half-siblings Loiza and Catharine, his grandmother Lydia Washburn, aunt Lucy Washburn, Henry Len Eyck, and Jesse Seward. [2]

He appeared in the 1860 US Census in Green Garden, Will County, Illinois. [3] He was listed as a servant in the household of Benjamin Bowen. [3]

He entered into service on 31 July 1862 in Rockville, Kankakee County, Illinois. [4]

He was mustered into service on 22 August 1862 in Kankakee, Illinois. [1]

He was a wagoner in Company I Unit 76th Illinois Infantry. [4]

He was killed by guerillas on 2 June 1863 near Grand Gulf, Mississippi. [4]

He was buried at Smith Cemetery in Kankakee County, Illinois. [5]
