Biography

John Warren was born about 1535 as he was said to be aged 50 years in his burial record in 1585. He is repeatedly referred to as "armorer" in the parish records of St. Peter's upon Cornhill in London. He was married to Lettice who may have been the the Lettice Grove baptized on 12 July 1541. By her, he had six known children, namely Jasper, John, William, Susan, Richard and Elizabeth.[1]
He was buried on 12 September 1585 aged 50 yr of the plague, and was buried in the west yard of St. Peter's.[2] Lettis Warren, widow of John Warren, armorer, married on 19 June 1587 Lawrence Evannes, of London, cutler, son of Richard Evannes.[3]
The primary interest in this John Warren is that it has been suggested that he may have been the father of the Mayflower passenger Richard Warren.[4] There is no actual evidence beyond the name Richard Warren to suggest that this is true. There are no wills, land records, court records, baptisms etc. to connect the two men. It is also less likely given that it has recently been discovered that the Mayflower Richard Warren married in Great Amwell, Hertfordshire. Finally, Richard Warren the armorer's son died in 1624 and was buried at St. Peter's in London.[5]
