Thomas was born in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland about 1842. [1] He was the son of Michael Ward and Esther Skinner and was a railway pointsman living in Edinburgh when he married Isabella Hunter in Glasgow on 1 June 1877. [2] After her death the following year he moved back to Glasgow, became a railway signalman and married a woman called Mary, [3] but his later life and death have not been researched. [4]
