Willmarth Wallace was born in 1841 in . His parents were Ira Wallace and Lydia Wells. He married Mary Barnard on August 24, 1860 He died on April 14, 1889 in Lisbon, Lisbon, St. Lawrence, New York, United States
LISBON CENTRE. , April 22. The funeral of the late Wilmarth Wallace took place from his late residence at one o'clock last Tuesday afternoon and was very largely attended, a large detachment of Ransom Post of Ogdensburg, came down and conducted the services The burial ceremonies according to the G. A. R. were gone thro with Rev. Mr. Day, of Rensselaer Falls preached the sermon, text-Behold, I come quickly”, and as he had been deceased's pastor for nine years, his remarks were very touching. Mr. Wallace was a veteran of the late rebellion, a member of Co. B. N. Y. Volunteers, and a brave soldier. He faced the muzzles in a great many battles, of which the following are a few: Fairmont, W. V., Culpepper, Locust Grove, Cold Harbor, Spotsylvania, Winchester, Cedar Creek, Petersburg and Sailors' Run. This Co.. it is said, took part in 23 different engagements and Wilmarth always answered roll call. The community lose a good friend, a jovial, whole-hearted neighbor, and a man who could always be depended upon. He leaves a widow and five sons to mourn his loss. One sister, Mrs. J. W. Johnson of Buffalo, and one brother, Samuel, of the treasury department, at Washington, survive him. [1]
WALLACE, WILMURTH.—Age, 23 years. Enlisted, August 9, 1862, at Lisbon, to serve three years; mustered in as corporal, Co. B, August 27, 1862; promoted sergeant, no date; first sergeant, February 7, 1865; mustered out with company, June 22, 1865, near Washington, D.C.[2]
A DELEGATION from Ransom Post, G. A. R., of this city, go to Lisbon Centre today to help bury their comrade, the late Willmarth Wallace, who died on Sunday last.' Mr. Wallace was a member of Co. B, 106th N. Y. Yolunteers and a member of Ransom Post. He was respected by all who knew him.[4]
