Hi, Janelle, I see you have some good Acadian names in your tree and that's even before the original Acadian period! You will want to make use of some information to be used for Acadians on the Acadian Project page:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Acadians It has tips such as the French don't use middle names - all the names goe in the Proper first name. Many places changed hands as a result of treaties - the names are all listed on the project page with dates.

Also WikiTree is different from other trees in that you don't build your own - all the ancestors are shared. It's important not to make a new profile for people in your tree if they already have one on WikiTree. Here's how to find out: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:How_to_Search_for_Existing_Profiles

I see you've found some duplicates and proposed merges. The real key is not to make any duplicates if you can possibly find an already made profile. We have most of the original families already completed plus many others.

If you need help with anything Acadian, please don't hesitate to contact me. If you need help finding a person or sources, please let me know. We lvoe getting people connected with their Acadian ancestors. Cindy Bourque Cooper, co-leader, Acadian Project

Hello Cindy!

Thank you so much for contacting me, I am addicted to this website now and will likely be on here a lot in the coming weeks.

I have been working on my mothers family tree for about a year now. This site really has made it incredibly easy to see where the Acadian lines connect to me, thank you so much for all this info!!!

My mother got lots of info from Saint Anne's University back in 2004, which is what i started with, but some info is still hard/ impossible to find. Ive also worked through the ns archives as much as i could. Do you have any further recommendations to help me find info on the gaps? My grandfather's maternal side is pretty much empty (Amirault).

Any info would be greatly apreciated, Janelle

Hi, Janelle, after the end of the French Acadian period in 1763, my sources are less helpful. I would try these places:

https://archives.novascotia.ca/vital-statistics/ (begins in 1864) https://archives.novascotia.ca/acadian/reborn/results/?Search=doucet&fieldSelect=name&Start=126 (1799-1849) https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/Pages/census.aspx Canada censuses starting in 1825 - very useful if you have any family relationship to search.

Give those a try. Often you need to look for a child, spouse or parents in order to find the person you are looking for. Be creative :) Cindy
