Ellen Mae Walker was born on 27 April 1933 in Henderson County, North Carolina, the daughter of Loyd Brown Walker and Annie Lou Watkins.[1][2]

Lloyd Walker (43), farmer, and his wife, Ann Lou (36), rented farm property in The Village of Fletcher at $5/month, in household with their children, Cleta (14), Lloyd Jr (10), and Ellen (7). Lloyd Sr completed 4th grade, Ann Lou completed 7th grade, Cleta and Lloyd Jr completed 8th grade, and Ellen completed 1st grade. All in household were at the same location in 1935 and all were born in North Carolina.[3]
