Biography

"In the 43d of the said King, Sir Thomas Felton, Knt. of the Garter, possessed it; but in the 8th of Richard II. Sir John L'Estrange ot Hunstanton, and Alianore his wife, who was daughter and coheir ot Sir Richard Walkfar, for 500 marks, sold their right in this and Dersingham manor, to the Lady Joan, relict of Sir Thomas Felton, and sister to Alianore; and in the 12th of that King, the Lady Joan settled it in trust, on Richard de Burnham, parson of Queen Hithe, in London." [1]
"Sir Thomas married when relatively young, to Joan Walkefare, the daughter of a neighbouring Norfolk family, and they appear to have had a successful and stable marriage that showed all the outward signs of happiness. The marriage had been profitable to both families and Joan had stood beside her husband, witnessing his land transactions and managing his estates, whilst he became a leading figure in the military campaigns in France. Joan provided Sir Thomas with two daughters who survived to adulthood, Sybil and Mary, and a son, also named Thomas. Sadly, the young Thomas, like so many of his contemporaries, died whilst still an infant. At the time of his death Sir Thomas‟s daughters were both married but childless, and his wife was well beyond the age of childbirth so any possibility of a male heir was gone." [2]

Research Notes

Said to be the daughter of Sir Richard Walkfar, and sister of Alianore, and not a Felton, by birth.

Various unsourced gedcoms at Ancestry.com call her Joan FitzJohn, Joan FitzWilliam or Joan Walkefare.

Doesn't actually seem to be a daughter of Felton and MacDuff.

Why is she formerly a Walkfare if her father was a Felton, and why does her father have the same surname as her husband?
