Biography
Jesse Waites is a part of US Black heritage.
Jesse Waites was born about 1843.
In 1870 Jesse was working as a porter in a store in Norfolk, Virginia. He was married and he and his wife, Adaline, had two daughters, Adaline and Mary.[1]
In 1880 Jesse and Adaline were living in Tanner's Creek with 3 children: Adaline, Aleck and Margaret. Jesse was employed as a butcher.[2]
Jesse would marry for a second time on July 25, 1893, to Sarah F Smith in Norfolk, Virginia.[3]
Jesse and Sarah would take up residence on Washington Avenue in Tanner's Creek. By 1900 they had a son, 4-year-old Barnard. Sarah's daughter, Blanch Smith (21) was also living with them.[4]
Research Notes
Unable to locate the death record, however, his wife Sarah was listed as a widow in 1920.
