Cause of death: Died in Aircraft Accident, Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S-50 #424, near Roedtan. A Buccaneer S.Mk.50 (424) of 24 Squadron SAAF crashed in the Roedtan area, near Marble Hall, during a night training exercise. Capt K.B. Duncan Duncan-19386 and Lt P.P. Wahl were killed. The Board of Inquiry found that the aircraft had impacted the ground in a near vertical dive after losing the horizontal tail plane at supersonic speed. The Board concluded that it all indicated pilot disorientation and loss of spatial orientation during a night flight at high altitude. The crew failed to recover from the fatal dive and went in with the aircraft. The tail plane section was located nearly 2 km away from the crash site. South African Air Force forum[3]
