William was born in 1886 in Hove, Sussex, England.[1]

In the 1891 census William (age about 5) was living at 26 Shirley Street, Hove, Sussex, England. age 5y.[1]

In the 1901 census William (age about 15) was living at 1 Station Road, Southwick, Sussex, England. Sheet Metal worker apprentice age 15y.[2]

On 30 June 1907 William (age about 21) was living at 11 Cobbold Road, Hammersmith, Middlesex, England. Metal worker age 22y.[3]

When William was about 21 he married Emily Maud Fair on 30 June 1907 in St Saviour's Church, Hammersmith, Middlesex, England.[4]
